My 69 dart has a 3 on the tree and im converting to a floor shift.
do i need to get a whole new steering collum ? i dont have the slightest clue as to what needs to be done there so any help would be great.

Thanks,
Phil.

You will need to purchase a used factory floor shifter with all linkage.
Use the factory service manual and install it.
You do not need a new column, you can just drive the drift pin out of the shifter to remove it.

Also the three speed floor shift requires a weld in floor hump, it takes the same one as a 4-speed.

If you buy one of the universal floor shift shifter kits plan on doing a lot of fabrication, they do not fit that good.

I am doing this exact same swap on my 69 Dart right now. You can just knock the pin out that holds the shift lever on and run it like that if you want. In my case I lucked out and found a floor shift steering column on e-bay that I swapped so I can keep a factory look. Trans. X-member and mount is the same for both. Be warned that if you want to swap columns, you will need one from a 67-69. Anything later has the locking column with the built ign. lock. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, glad to help any way I can.
