I have a set of 302 heads for my 273. which cyl head gaskets do I use, 318 or 273. Also I read a thread where the author said you should paint the gasket, any reasons for this. does anyone have a part number for thin gaskets.
thanks

There the same gasket. Metal ones are OE and could use a sealant as some suggest. Indian head gasket would do fine.

I used these;

They are good for 1/2 a point compression over the Fel pro Permatorque gaskets because of their compressed thickness. They have a smaller bore too which helps. They're not supposed to need sealer either. If I do seal head gaskets I like Permatex copper spray. The best, thinnest, and most expensive head gaskets would be Cometic Multi layer-steel. They can be made specifically for your aplication. tmm
