I'm here
Thinking on doing a 318 over the winter for the truck. Will be a LA roller block, and I don't care about WOT.
I have not tested anything with the early year (like the '69) single plane vs the later year intake. Thinking best torque/power up to about 3000 rpms.
At this point, I know pretty much the rest of the build, just wondering if anyone has compared these intakes. At this time, this direction, it will be the BBD 2bbl. As always, I may change my mind... LOL
As in older intake, the picture below references what I'm talking about

I guess a short question would be did they change for the better or for emissions??

Sorry, but 318willrun hasn't done a test on these 318 intakes...

por que no los dos?

all kidding aside, i'm guessing that they already had ideas of going to the better design and it's just that emissions pushed them that way.

this one will flow better, 360 fuel injection manifold. I also have a 318 fi manifold, still on engine.

Probably the better of the 318 factory intakes, but I'd rather put the BBD on an adapter and use an Edelbrock Street Master. Charlie Servedio worked and worked on a factory single plane when the MI 318 project started and the flow scatter from port to port was terrible.

I'm just woderin what the fear of a four barrel is? We all know a properly sized and well tuned four barrel performs head and shoulders above a two barrel ad gets better mileage. I fail to understand why you tie your hands.

You know me, I only fear God ....
Just was strongly think'n on putting the 318 2bbl into the truck. Just simple, stock. Stock exhaust manifolds, Y-pipe, it all.... all which I have. Backed by a stock torque converter, stock 904 (I do have 727 lock up too), stock linkage for kickdown and throttle....
  • I do have 4bbls, and intakes, and Big Blocks (and truck mounts for the BB's), and Magnums, and ........ but just think'n the simple 318 2bbl (at least for now)

Lots of "stock" foe barrahs too.

I think the dual plane would give a little more low end tq, but probably not worth the cost of buying one if you do not have one on the shelf...

I vote to run it stock first with an improved distributor curve and then switch to an Offy 318 dual port or an Edelbrock StreetMasterwith a 1901 AVS2 just to see what kind of mileage difference you get. I think it would be better than expected even with the restrictive stock Y pipe and exhaust. Is this going into the slant six truck?

I can tell you from experience a regular performer intake and 1406 edelbrock makes a pretty happy combination on that setup (hydraulic roller 318 with stock exhaust) .

yes, thinking the slant truck

Don't know if you've got one sittin' around, but for the sake of argument a stock 360 2bbl manifold and carb is an excellent bolt-on addition to a stockish 318. All your planned linkages will work. If you don't have one already, they can be had for a song.

I've considered using the 360 intake, but I don't have one or the carb presently. I doubt I'll buy anything as I have 2bbl intakes and carbs for 318's, and I also have assortment of 4bbl's and intakes on hand as well.
