Anybody have piston ring recommendations for a mild 318 build with KB167s based on experience. I was considering a set of Hastings moly rings. They were "the ****" back in the day. Is the quality still there?

Thanks
Matt

I’ve ever had a problem with any pistons rings. Always a moly top and /or second pretty much. No matter where they cam from, KB rings and slugs, or Federal-Mogul rings and slugs, expensive rings, cheap rings, they all did there job.

I was looking at Mahle moly coated rings on summit. They also have chrome rings. It's been a long while since I built and engine , but I think I remember chrome being pretty hard, and took longer to seat.

I typically use moly rings but as previously stated never had issues with other materials. It's important to have the cylinders honed properly for the chosen ring material. Also make sure you gap them properly. 65'

Agreed on all accounts. I did a search on the net. For a street car, Moly seems the way to go. My machinest normally asks all the proper questions in regards to selected ring material. I told him this is going to be mild performance budget build.

Thanks guys !!!
