Alright everyone I need some help here. Owning a 74 duster we are planning on putting in a 360 engine that we received when we purchased the car. In assembling the 360, can we use the oil pan from the 318 that originally came with the duster on the 360? Or will the 360 require its' own specific oil pan, even though they are both small blocks? Any information helps!

Thanks,

you need a 360 "center sump" pan. the 392 pan the sump starts ~4" back from the very front of the lip in front (a vertical plumb line) and the 876 pan its ~2". both sumps are ~8" long & use different pickups. Not sure which pan you need for kmember rear lip/centerlink clearance on the later A's but the guys here do & someone will advise you. if the sump "location" and depth is the same on the 318 pan as the particular 360 pan you need (& will acquire) then you could use the 318 pickup (check the baffles if any) but you should be good on the pickup if depth/sump position is the same

Not sure of all your specifics but I run exactly what your doing . I have my original '74 318 pan on a later year 360 block . I needed my pan to clear the steering arms and couldn't use the 360 truck pan . I had no issues

LA 360 truck pans are rear sump pans, LA 360 A body pans are center sump pans. The 318 pans will fit a 340, but the 360 pans have a different "smile" than the 318/340 pans. Ask me how I figured this out? LOL

You need a 360 pass car pan OR if you are a good welder, I did this years ago.............took a scrap block, bolted the 318/340 pan to it, and rigged a "jig" at the rear and cut out a piece, then swapped to the 360 pan and used the jig to cut out an identical piece. I actually swapped these, making them "opposite" IE the truck 360 pan became a 340 pan into my old landcruiser, and the 340 pan "became" a 360 pass car pan so the 360 went into my then old 70RR.

I actually still have one of the pans, LOL

Now THATS hot rodding! :burnout:MT

273/318/340 have one pan, 360 and '92+ motors have another, rear seal surface's different. Cars and trucks don't use the same sump- for a Chrysler car you'll want a stock 360 car pan.
