Just wanted opinions on sealing the timing cover on a small block. Do you all put a smear of rtv or gasket adhesive on the gasket. If so what do you use (like what kind of sealer)? All input greatly appreciated!

dont use gasket i use only rtv....like for the pass 30 yrs...

I use Three Bond 1184 to seal stuff like this. It is stronger than RVT and remains pliable .Coat the bolt threads too.

I have always just wiped the gasket with a thin coat of rtv, very minimum, like put the permetex between your fingers and wet the gasket out.
Use PTFE sealant on the bolts.
Add a bead of permatex on the rubber oil pan seal.
And dampen the crank oil seal with a thin coat of oil.
