318 Wont start unless I jump out the ballast resistor.

Well I fixed it, Kinda...

While removing excess wiring from under the hood (I was feed up with the starting problem so I moved on to another project ) When I found a large ball of electrical tape on the wiring harness. I removed the tape and found a hot wire that reached the coil, after some testing I hooked it up and the problem was solved! Turns out the wire from the coil was added by someone and they must have bypassed something...

I love electrical...

Now she starts every time and and I'm on to painting the dash.

I had a similar problem with Dart GT I just got. I disconnected the 3 wiring harness connectors on the firewall, sprayed them off with electrical cleaner, sprayed the dielectriec grease, hooked back up and mine fires everytime now. One connector looked corroded and may have had one pushed in pin.
 
The battery voltage drops during cranking so the resistor needs to be bypassed during cranking through the ignition switch to provide enough voltage for the coil to work properly. after the crank mode the resister is necessary to keep from damaging the coil .
