building a 340 30 over stock 202 heads ld340 trw pistons and im going to run stock rocker set up with high flow manifolds , what cam selection do guys have , its going to be a driver and cruiser:D

Something in the .500 lift range around 230 or so @ .050 duration on a 112 LSA for good driveability and you'll be good.

TRW pistons? Of what ratio?
Exhaust manifolds?
What is the gear ratio and tire size,
Auto or manual?
What do you want out of the car?

I really like comps 274s, works great all around with my 340,,,,but it is a solid cam and will need adjustable rockers

I did a stockish 340 build for my dad's 68 convert. It was a 10.5 flat top, stock j heads with 2.02's and good valve job, Edelbrock RPM, 750 holley, and headers. It has a 904 with a cheapo 166K mopar convertor and 3.55's. I used a comp cams XE268H cam and it is a great combo. I was basically a 340 400HP receipe Mopar Muscle did an article on years ago.

Pulls hard to 6K, has a nice idle.....

Hope this helps.

I still own a 69 block 70 Duster my ex wife used to daily drive. I told her hi test... Factory domed pistons, .018 flat out of the deck. 202s, ld4b. 650 holley. That car would move. Oh. old purple 484 lift, 234 @ 50. That bleed of some cr, but factory? maybe 8.8.

Well after it sitting on stands since 1987, I decided to see if it would still run. It did, but I had bought it used in 1973, and wanted to mike the lift and duration. Poop, for the first time in my lfe, I torqued the rocker shasts back, @ 16. Don't ever do that. Heads had to come off to go to shop and get broken studs out.

Then noticed #6 piston had a piece broke off- lo test. That's how I know how it will run- same combo, but no 10.5 flat tops. It falls off about 6600. Gear for that.

Oh. I found the last right bank piston made by factory in a Penn Dodge dealer. They didn't believe it, but the Fla dealer had it on computer.

going to stay with 480 lift or less so I can run stock rocker gear, cant remember numbers but looking at the 270 470 magnum 280 480 magnum or the extrweme energy I thinh 477 480 lift

either xe268h or magnum 270 what do you guys think:D

if your running factory exhaust manifolds id run a dual pattern on a wider lsa like 112.

I think 10.5:1 with small cam is not going to be pump gas friendly

yeah true but building for my dad who doesntr like headers so don't want to go with overkill

The stock 340 cam was 268 intake duration. The Comp XE268 and Lunati Voodoo 10200703 (old 60403) are more modern versions, and would make a nice upgrade for a street cruiser.

I get you want to build for your dad and no headers, but at least use the 273 adjustable rocker arms so you have better cam options and can find the perfect cam for the setup. A member is sell his dc rockers for like 80 plus shipping, I'd buy/use if I didn't already have comp pro mag roller rockers.

thanks swinger leaning toward the 268 which one do you think would pull higher rpms in the combo:blob:

The vodoo 268/ 276 has 488/513 lift I think ? So I think that cam will rev well for the short duration .

I think you could put a blanket over the two... very close
