I have disassembled the 73 340 i bought a few weeks back and that will be going out to get cleaned magged and bored (if needed) very soon.

This is my first Mopar engine build and also first performance build. I have rebuilt motors to stock and not changed much other than gaskets rings and such.

I am starting to put together a list of stuff for the build so once i get the ok from the machine shop i can start purchasing the stuff

For Pistons I am going to go with the KB's
For Rods...should I use the stock ones ??
I am going to get the 60179 Edelbrock heads below are the specs
Valve Size: Intake- 2.02", Exhaust- 1.60"
Valve Spring Diameter: 1.45"
Valve Spring Installed Height: 1.800"
Valve Spring Seat Pressure: 120 lbs.
Max. Valve Lift: .575"
On the rocker arm and rockers which ones should i go with??

Any input on the heads would be good. As I have the stock ones but would like to get the alum ones

Im still trying to figure out the best cam. Should I go with MP or is Comp better

I am not planning on racing it is a 2dr 69 dart with 904 trans and will be getting a 8 3/4 with 3.23 or 3.55 want to stay on pump gas as well

Anymore help would be great i know a lot of you have done this before.

Crackedback is right. The 60179 heads would only be for an engine using the original domed style pistons. I'd probably use either a Comp or Lunati cam, or maybe one from Hughes. Somebody here will probably give you a better idea of which grind to use. There's been a lot of talk about cams on here but it's all mixed up in a lot of engine threads so it'd be kind of hard to search for. You might want to add some ARP bolts to your rods. You'll have to have them resized afterwards. Depending on your cam choice you might be able to get by with stock rocker arms. Or, you can probably find a set of 273 adjustable rocker arms for sale. I personally don't care for aluminum rocker arms because they have a limited fatigue life but a LOT of people use them with no problems & they've been around for years.

This is just my opinion but don't cheap out and reuse your stock rods. If you build it tough now it makes it easier and cheaper to beef up your motor more later.

I went with Comp for my cam and had a very good experience. Just call them up and they will go over your build with you and help you either pick a good cam for you or they will do custom grinds as well.

Comp xe268 or xe274 are really good cams. Don't need a ton of converter and still idle reasonable. A 268 works well with a 2500 stall, a slight bump in stall for a 274.

You could go towards the Hi Lift series or Lunati Voodoo as well.

Run a good dual plane intake and you should be good.

yeah grab those rockers. They'll work fine as long as you don't go crazy on lift.

You'll need ball/cup pushrods with them, not ball/ball.
