Hi, I currently have a 67 Barracuda with a 273 and 904. Would like to drop in a complete 340 and keep the 904. Is this possible? What might I have to change? Thanks

Should be a no problem swap, Just make sure the flex plate on the 340 matches up to the converter on the 273 trans. Or just use the 273 flex plate if its a 1970 or earlier 340

You will need a new left side motor mount backet or the orignal that came on the 340

Make sure the water pump lower hose inlet is the same position as the 273

I have done just that in my 67 Dart. My 340 is a '70 model, so I used the 273 flex plate. Looks very much like a 273 4 barrel sitting in the engine bay.

Milodon makes the drivers side outlet Hi-po water pump . You can get it at Summit. Did this on my 273 to 340 swap

If it's a steel crank 340, you should be able to use your original flexplate. If it's a cast crank 340, you will need a B&M plate for the cast crank or have weights put on the converter.

I don't recall what year they changed, but at least the earlier 273's had a smaller snout on the converter. I found out the hard way when I used a rebalanced 273 steel crank in a 340 and my converter snout wouldn't fit into the back of the crank! So in your case, make sure you don't have the smaller snout converter.
