I bought a 360 short block and would like to find out what year it is and possibly what it came out of originally. The casting numbers are 3418496-7-360.

I decoded this to be a 71-74 block, but that is as far as I could get.

There is no ring ridge, shows standard bore pistons, and spins freely. I gave $100, figured I couldn't go wrong. Just want to know what I bought.

Thanks in advance.

that is the correct casting number for a 71 to 74 block...

there is a casting date on the other side of the block...

excellent buy...

Damn! I guess I'll have to look at it in the day light next time I go out to the farm.

It's not a true shortblock. Block, crank, rods and pistons. No oil pan, camshaft, or timing cover.I'll probably end up selling everything but the block.

If everything checks out OK, this will be the start of next winter's 408 build.
