Guys,

In the market for a new roller cam and rockers for my Magnum 360. The amount of information regarding cam selection is enough to make your head spin and I'm not sure I'm any closer to a decision than I was a month ago!

Car is a street driven, summer driver only that will rarely (if ever) see the track. Want to stay full roller and run 1.6 rockers.

Please find specs below and thanks in advance for everyone's help!

67 Notch (3300lbs w/driver)
Magnum 360 block
MP Aluminum Magnum Heads (mildly ported)
GM 3100 beehive springs, 150lbs closed, max lift .490" (could obviously quickly switch these out if needed)
KB107's zero decked
Eddy RPM Air Gap
3.91 SG with 27" tires (am considering going to a 3.55 SG at some point and to a 25-26" tire in the future so wanted to mention in now)
3000rpm stall (9.5" Dynamic converter)
TTI W2 headers
650cfm Eddy
TF727 freshly rebuilt w/TransGo shift kit and a B&M super cooler

Thanks for the response on the cam and I'll check out Oregon Cam Grinding.

For rockers, I've been told two different things on some Comp rockers I'm considering (part #1618-16, Ultra Pro Magnum 1.6 self-aligning rockers).

One person told me these rockers would work on my aluminum magnum head with 3/8" stud....another person told me no, that these rockers are specifically designed for use on a Chevy SB and won't fit.

Any help here...thanks!

Better read the fine print on those rockers...says they only fit iron heads...

otherwise very nice rockers....wish they would fit the eddy magnum heads also..

Yup sorry boutht at I missed it. But it says they're workin on other apps. Might call um and see how close they are. Thanks for catchin that Tony.

agree, those rockers look nice but only work on iron heads (i have aluminum).

what about the Hughes 1.6 stainless steel rockers (HUG 1560's)?

Also, been told conflicting information on whether I'll need to run guideplates on my heads. Have heard if you buy self-aligning rockers, you can bypass using guideplates but to never run both together.

If this is true, what's the best 1.6 self-aligning rocker available for our magnum heads?

I use the 1550's from hughes very well made. You have to run guide plates and hardened push rods though. Check on use with aluminum heads. I have iron.

okay guys, gettting closer to a decision on a new cam. Have narrowed it down to four after getting some advice on here (thanks rustyratrod!) and talking to a few local builders.

1. Oregon Cam grind #1331 - 281/289 adv, 232/240 @ .050, .525/.533, 112 LSA

2. Custom grind from IMM - 270/273 adv, 218/224 @ .050, .528/.506, 107 LSA

3. Comp Cams XR280HR-10 - 288/290 adv, 230/236 @ .050, .541/.537, 110 LSA

4. Voodoo 60403 - 268/276 adv, 226/234 @ .050, .494/.513, 110 LSA

I would not swap out a hyd roller for a hyd flat tappet.

I have two of the four choices in motors right now.
I have #3 in my 360 mag.
Are you sure about #4 I have that cam in my 340, it is a flat tappet.

You should have quite a bit of comp for pump gas. Along with street gearing/converter it is not the best combo. I'd go with Bullet [email protected] .560 108lsa installed @ 104-105icl. I doubt you need more exhaust duration for a low RPM street engine with the limitations. Any of the grinds posted are ok,you'd never know the difference without alot of track testing and for a mild street car it is a waste of time to look at too many numbers.

just wanted to give you guys an update on my cam search. I've come across a basically new hyd roller that has less than 500 miles on it and the specs are close to what you guys have recommended. I can get it for basically nothing and trust where it's coming from.

Just want to get your opinions on running this cam for my application (and save the $350-400) or if some of these other cams I'm considering are worth the extra money (I don't mind spending the coin if you guys think it's worthy).

This cam is 288/293 adv, 229/234 @ .050, .486/.498 (w/1.6 rockers), 106 LSA.

Biggest difference I see is less lift with this cam (which could be helped by running 1.7's, correct?) and a tighter LSA (106 vs. 110); not really sure what noticeable difference this will make, if any?

I've tried to educate myself on cam choice reading the internet, but this is the first motor I've ever done and still don't feel comfortable making a decision that's this important without 'expert' advice!

Thanks guys...

If you are not racing it, with the parts listed above, any of those cams will work....but did I miss something? W2 headers with Magnum heads????

I have a set of W2 TTI Headers that bolt to the Factory location on a set of LA Heads. I bought these thinking that I can put the RHS Dual Pattern "Ready for W2 Headers" to use. The only thing that is different on these is the exhaust port on the flange. Otherwise they bolt in the stock location.

huh....learn something new everyday. :D I thought that was mistake.
