360 Crate, 8 1/4 Rear, engine swap

Hello, I am new to the site and have some questions: I currently have a 73 Duster with a 225 /6. I want to replace that with a Mopar 360/ 380hp Crate motor. Only problem is I'm not 100% sure on what i'm doing. I have read the tech article on v8 conversions and was wondering if there is also a book or something I could get on engine swaps. Also in regards to the tranny, I would like to put a 727 Torqueflite in it and was wondering about a good place to buy a complete one. My last question would be about my rear end, I am pretty sure it's a 8 1/4, and if it is would it be able to handle the 380horses and 410ft lbs that the crate is rated at? I don't plan on driving it hard while that rear is in it, but i'm just wondering if it will get me by untill I replace it? Thank you in advance.

The 8-1/4 should be fine behind the crate motor.

ART can set you up with a good 727 and Scumacher sells the mounts to go from a 6 to the V8. they also have a book with lots of info on the swap.

I've got an 8-1/4 in my 12 second Duster. It's held up just fine for the last few years!

If you're going to be street driving, the 8-1/4 is just fine. The tubes on mine are starting to twist a bit from all of the burnouts with slicks at the track.

TCI has a 727 for around 750 bucks, it will hold up easily to that crate engine. I was going to do the 360/380 magnum crate too but decided to go with pre-magnum 360 short block, its like 1200 bucks, i think the crate is around 3500. with the extra money i saved i bought edelbrock aluminum heads, headers, windage tray, and some other things. The crate 360/380 comes with iron heads. If you want that particular crate because its a magnum, you can also get a magnum short block, and edelbrock came out with aluminum magnum heads. You'll probably end up paying less or around the same, but have some better parts for your money. You'll have more than 380 horses too.
