Just finished up the 360 rebuild w/a stock center sump pan, NAPA Gold 1068 filter and will be installing a new oil dipstick. To verify if it is reading accurately, I'll fill the block w/5qts, spin the pump to circulate in the oil filter, let the oil settle, then check. My question is if the filter takes 1/2 qt, does that mean the block only has 4 1/2 qts at the full mark?

Thanks in advance.

FSM should have it total oil capacity I would think that is not with a filter since there are two sizes.

Stock oil pan for the 360 should be the 438 oil pan, which from what I was able to find is spec'd as a 4 quart oil pan, so yes, putting 5 quarts in should put you at about 4 1/2 quarts in the pan. My 402 oil pan on my 440 is the same way.

I had that same issue once. I did exactly what you said in the original post. Put 5 quarts in it, start it for a minute or so. Shut it down and let it fully drain back into the pan, then check it and mark it where the oil line is.

Thanks guys. I'm ready to install the oil dipstick tube and of course it interferes w/the fuel pump. Would it be best to install the tube then bend it or bend it before installation? I'm afraid if I install it, ty to bend it, the tube will split. What's the safest way?

I'd get a tube bender and bend it before installing, even if it's one of the cheap handheld ones. I've seen them at local parts stores and harbor freight. Bend it a little and test fit it. Repeat until you have it where you want it. Shouldn't cause an issue with the dipstick unless you are bending towards front or back.
