HOWARD'S CAMS 318-340-360 CHRYSLER MOPAR 277/283 .531"/.547" HYD CAMSHAFT KIT:
HOWARDS PART #SK710581-10

All Howards™ Cams are ground at Howards Cams™, not reboxed like some cam companies. All Howards™ Cams use the highest-grade race quality cores available. All hydraulic and mechanical flat tappet camshafts are 100% Rockwell checked and Parkerized to ensure the highest quality control standards available anywhere. Howards™ Cams are manufactured on dedicated high precision cam grinding machines. Most Howards™ Cam and lifters are packaged and shipped in our unique, hard, high impact plastic reusable cases. This ensures that the high quality camshaft that went into the case comes out in the same condition, when delivered, as when it was packed.remium materials and advanced engineering to deliver unbelievable power. These cams offer significant advantages of additional lift and more power compared to flat tappet designs. The latest in lobe design produces better throttle response and top end horsepower. Designed with fast ramp speeds to give you the most power possible while maintaining the easy maintenance of a hydraulic cam.

1978 360 block bored .030”, cylinders notched for rod clearance, and block was squared. I also installed the oil crossover tube for better oiling.

The heads have been ported nicely, which look to be done professionally to a stage 2 or 3 level. They have stainless valves, bronze guides, and heavy duty springs to match the Howard’s camshaft. .030” Cometic sheet metal re-usable head gaskets were installed. The roller rocker arms I’m not sure what brand they are but might be Pro-forms. I up-graded the adjuster screws to Crane Cams brand and cut the ball and cup push rods to length.

I port matched the intake manifold to the head intake ports and the exhaust side to a set of Flowtec headers.

The crankshaft (rotating assembly) was balanced and was told by the Machine shop owner it looked like a chamfered Scat cast crank.

quench .036”
Rod and main bearing clearance .002-.003”.
Valve lash was set at ¾ turn.
Camshaft was installed straight up with a 3 way timing gear adjustment. The motor was primed and has 75 lbs. oil pressure with Valvoline ZR-1 10W30
It was run long enough to break-in the camshaft.
The factory distributor will need to be re-curved or an after market one can be installed.

I thought 408's had 4" rods. Cast or forged crank. KB's are hyperutectic's, correct.

I thought 408's had 4" rods. Cast or forged crank. KB's are hyperutectic's, correct.

Rods are 6.123"
The crankshaft is a 4" cast crank which is listed in my description. The pistons are KB-356-30 hypereutectic.

Thanks. Sounds more like a race engine than a truck, or a mean truck... Lol!
