Pretty clean
Cam is on its way out
Can barely feel the ride in the cyl
63 casting date
AAQA on block
No bore notches
What is the V41 and the 3 on the pad and the 3 or 8 R on the block?
And the L and R under the the casting number
I assume the 9. 25 is manufacture, but don't see a 63

My best guess, they ran out of standard blocks one day and the grabbed a to be notched max wedge block, both having the AAQA mark
I wouldn't be surprised if it were the case
I have a 70 Dart with factory holes for the ac hoses. Car did not come with ac. I posted about it and others had the same thing.

V is code for 1964 build. 41 is code for 413..... would be 42 if a 426.
Did they make 516 heads in 63??? I was expecting pedestal stands and maybe 200 heads??
I guess 6 bolt covers would be right for a late 63 build?? Not Maxie anything there, sans maybe the block. Forging number on crank and rods may help too....maybe not LY rods in that one??
Interesting....

That block also has the standard font for the casting number. Not like the Max Wedge blocks.

1964 413 block, so it’s not a max. 413 max wedge was only in 1962. Many AAQA made it into 4 door new Yorkers.

Both the AAQA and AAQD were cast in a LOT of parts. As was mentioned in the other thread, it has to have all three, the special font, the AAQA and the valve notches, or it's not a Max Wedge block. Pretty straight forward.

Would a max wedge block have a an hp stamping? the max wedge heads will be obvious huge ports and only 4 bolt valve covers.
Max wedge heads do not have a heat cross over either.

No controversy. It never had max heads on it, so it's not a max block. Period. (Without the valve notches, the exhaust valves crash into the block, and it will NOT run with eight bent exhaust valves).
The 1.88 exhausts clear on a 4.320 block, NOT on a 4.187 bore 413 block.

Exactly. No matter how much he wants it to be, it ain't. Nothing says he cannot make one from it, though.

R Raised Deck
L Long Stroke

There's a thread on FCBO about the letters below the casting numbers. L is for Low deck and S is for short stroke.

A 350 block as an example.

I am not claiming that the engine is max, hopefully the block is
ill be making some calls today

The block casting number for a 413 Max Wedge block would be 1852029 and available in 1962 B-bodies only. Max Wedges in 1963 and 1964 would have been 426’s with 2406730 as the casting number. I hope that this helps.

If you are saying that you want to make a faithfull reproduction of a Maxie engine, as long as the block casting is correct, then you should know the valve notching tool, which was created by Ed Iskedarian, can still be purchased today.

Thank you

Does anybody know if a valve notching tool can be used to notch the block?
(I had my max re-notched, but due to the .070 overbore to standard 440, it was an unnecessary waste. A 413 WILL need notches for original max heads.
It MAY NOT be necessary with the new Mopar Performance max repops because of the smaller exhaust valves.)
