I pulled the cam out of my 440 it's a crane fireball cam. It says 294 on it. On the bottom side it has the numbers:65-25-84. I know it's an old cam. Does anyone know the specs on it. Tried online but didn't find too much info on it. Thanks guys

Is that the specs on the fireball? Looks like it. Any experience with them I know there a thing of the past.

Yup, that's the same cam. Usually, Crane changes marketing names, but you can always spot them by the grind specs. They had an old "SS-310" that was a very popular huge solid bumpstick for the big block chebbie. You cannot buy the "SS-310" anymore, but they still have the same cam under a different name with the same specs.

It would be with all the matchin stuff. It will need a loose converter with an auto, and some deeper than stock gears like 3.91 or 4.10s to work to it's full potential, but it will WORK with other gears just not as well. the converter will just about need to be a must. that has a lot of duration and a narrow lobe separation. It will have a rough idle.

I have a 3000 stall and I'm gonna be building a Dana with 4.10 gears so I think I'm ok then? It's going in my 70 duster.

Hell yeah, that's right on the money. That sucker oughtta scream and holler.

I love crane cams!! especially the fireball series. Had a few of those in small blocks back in the day..

Just got a dana60 with 3.54 u think the cam would be lazy with those gears?

I wouldn't say it would be lazy. More like the 4.10 will work much better. Does that make sense?

Tire size has an effect as well. If your goiong w/3.55's, the tire should be a bit smaller than what you'd use with a 4.10 set up.

If I was running 4.10, I would in example use a 28 inch tall tire
""................... 3.55's ................................ about 26-26-1/2 tire

both as wide as possible

With the 3.55's, you'll have to wait a tad longer to get into that engines power band. Dog? IDK for sure, a 440 makes alooooootta torque!

hey everyone i got the engine all together and i figured id post a video for you all to see and hear the way the cam sounds.

let me know what you think

Back in the day I sold Crane Fireballs for $49.95. They were a cheap/fun cam for the guys that wanted a choppy idle. They had a lot of duration and worked ok if you weren't going for maximum horsepower.

yeah i like the sound runs good starts up better than any carb car ive had. need a driveshaft still and im attacking the body work at least twice a week.

i have one on my shelf i pulled out of a 400, a guy rebuilt and eventually got in a jam and stored it in his yard, outside. he figured upside down it would be safe. the oil pan rotted out. all i was able to salvage from it was a 987 water pump housing a 666 intake, and the cam. the parts of the bores that werent rust, looked like it was never run. 030 over pistons that were stuck solid in the bores. i had planned on using it in my 400 but for the cost of a set of lifters i just bought a summit cam and lifters.

Yeah I have yet to run the car on the street need to finish my front disc swap and I'm good to go and a kickdown cable, I ended up not going with the Dana I got a good deal on a 8.75 center with a Richmond 4.10 gears and posi.
