440 Need help figuring out what cam is installed

For those interested- I found that original Torker 440 ad. I found MY OWN post on Moparts from back in 2009!!! It was easier to google it than to look for the magazine in my home. Edelbrock Torker ad from March 1974 Hot Rod magazine - Moparts Forums

Reading that thread reminds me that a moparts member or two got their Fruit of the Looms in a bunch because I posted that ad in the wrong forum.

Very interesting article, thanks for posting it. I'm going to run that manifold after reading this and save a few bucks.

In the 80s and 90s the Street Dominator and Torker were the go to for performance. The Performer RPM had not come out yet but the Torker 2 came out in the 90s and is supposed to have better lower end. It's revised curved runners looked like the Holley Street Dominator which is even today a great manifold. Personally I love the Edelbrock CH-28 dual quad manifold for the 440. I don't think it's quite as good on the top end as those single planes But it's fantastic none the less.

Fwiw, I dyno tested a Torker II against an original Torker on a 500hp-ish 440 in 1990.
The original Torker was clearly better down low and thru the middle, with the T2 making better top end power.
Torker- 550tq/519hp
T2- 535tq/535hp

Imo, the original Torker 440 is an under appreciated street-street/strip intake for builds in the 400-525hp range.

Appreciate that info PRH. Once this engine is back together and running, I plan to have it dyno tuned. Will post the stats with the T2 manifold.

The intake on the engine in your first post is an original Torker, not the T2.

Interesting stuff. When the original Torker was the go to manifold Edelbrock also made the TM-7 or, Tarantuala. Looks similar to the straight runner Torker but was more the race unit.

I’ve used the TM7 on a few customer bracket race engines.
Did some porting on one as well.
The runners are physically larger than the original Torker.
I consider it a higher rpm piece than the Torker, and for that brief time when Edelbrock reissued it(90’s/early 2000’s?), the listed rpm range for it was 3000-7000.

I bought my original Torker new in 1981.

I remember buying that magazine off the stand to have that test article. Great read! The magazines never promoted the Torker because Edelbrock sponsored them and the original Torker was out of production and old- and the Performer RPM was what was pushed. And it's a wonderful unit. Even when the Torker 2 was new and available the magazines and then paid youtubers ignored it- promoting the Performer RPM. But the old Torker just plain works and is lower in height than the RPM which can be significant. My self- I get a tingle in my dingle from this.
