I just pulled a set of stock rods and pistons from the shelf.
Three ways to verify the correct position on stock rods.
1) The LY and the casting number with the pimple next to it should face the other rod in the pair. Such as #7 and #8. *1851535 LY face each other. The large chamfer should be on the other side and face the crank fillet as moper says.
2) Put the bearing in, the biggest gap side-to-side goes to the crank and away from the other rod.
3) The number stamped into the cap and rod should be on the same side of the rod assembly and face towards the outside of the block. 1/1, 3/3, 5/5 & 7/7 face the left side of the block. 2/2, 4/4, 6/6 & 8/8 face the right side of the block.
