I hope it's a quality piece. 440 Source seems to be pretty good. I find it hard to believe someone hasn't reproduce this years ago. Maybe not enough interest?

Why would they be built and limited to only one gear ratio ? Every existing iron housing can go from 2.76 to a 5 series, right?
What would be different with these?
I'd be interested in seeing the pricing for one. I run a 3.55 in the Charger. I wouldn't spend a LOT of money for one of these in my other cars but maybe for the Charger.

I can see 440Source trying to save money by offering one gear ratio. It does come bare so anyone can make your own. 1350/3.55 I think would be the most street strip.

I wonder what it's equivalent to, 741, 742, 489....? as in what pinion will it accept.

I don't understand......are they claiming that the housing itself can only accommodate one ratio and they are taking a survey of which one is most desirable OR are they asking about ratios to know which ratio of gears to offer?
I don't know why a carrier would only allow for one single ratio. I do know that the taller the ratio, the larger the pinion gear and the clearance there is tight.

If you buy a bare one you can assemble it with any gear ratio you like, their asking for their assembled version which for now will only come in one ratio and yoke.

......assuming a Chinese clutch suregrip and 489 gear set.
For those that just wanna throw it in.... 3.55s and a 7290 would be most desirable, imo.
Glad it's offered bare, too
The aluminum center I bought a while back has 4.10s and a spool (9"). It surprised me how little weight savings it had over a nodular iron case.

One ratio is not even a smart idea.
Now you have pigeon holed yourself.
Talk to racers and 4:56 may win
Talk to street guys and 3:71 or 3:55 may be the winner. Maybe just way to built up hype in this financial endeavor.

Sad if Chynesium is the builders choice.

True but they probably will if they see demand for other ratios.

I'd be interested in one or more. As far as gear ratiio 4.10. It's a good all-around gear .

I read their posting fully the premise is that racers are likely gonna build to their own specs. so they'll buy the housing cause they're able to build their own, the customer buying a completed center chunk who doesn't have the know how to build their own can buy an already built center chunk.

They are trying to offer the option they think will appeal/sell the most, while offering ONLY one pre-assembled chunk. They don't wanna stock a whole bunch of options, and have them all sitting on a shelf.
The aluminum chunk I ordered was built per my specs. I was surprised how soon it came, considering it was a special order. (But nine inch Ford parts outnumber 8 3/4 about 10,0000 to 1)

I hope this uses a 742 ring/pinion.
Me too. I've always hear people say the 489 is better and the 742 has a week aera on the pinion but I have never broke one there but I have broken a couple of teeth of a ring gear. My one buddy that ran a all steel RR 9 sec car changed his gear set every 40 runs till he switched to a Dana. He didn't want the extra weight but finally got tired of the extra maintenance.

If they stocked 355, 373, and 410 most likely those 3 ratios would all sell fairly well and not spend excessive time collecting dust on a shelf

Some race ratios would be smart. Not too many street driven cars are going to need an aluminum housing. Oh, there will be some but most won't. A 3:23 geared aluminum carrier really isn't necessary.

I think they are just trying to use one ratio for economy of scale, as the manufacturer will be likely the one putting them all together. Ie: they probably ge t a better price ordering 1000 3.55 gear sets rather than 50 of this and 50 of that etc…
