Just wondering if there are any factory stock valve springs that can handle some added lift and RPM ( nothing for big cam needs/ just some added beef and psi ) over the factory 5.2 magnum VS . Ford, chevy, mopars....boneyard stuff ( without needing machine work to fit.)

I have no parts books of the appropriate vintage, but I *believe* the only Magnums that may have come with different valve springs MAY be the '98-'03 Dakota R/T.
But if you manage to find one of those in the boneyard, I'd be grabbing the entire engine and not just the valve springs.
Otherwise, to my knowledge, all 5.2 and 5.9 Magnums used the same springs.

This is about as cheap as you’re going to get…

Just be careful as the guy just joined on Dec 19th 2025!!!

hughes 1199 spring kit. it's a chunk of change but it's the easy button here and will handle pretty much anything you want to throw at it.

OK, so if you get NEW stock replacement 5.2 magnum valve springs. Would using a cam with .453 actual lift using the 1.6 ratio rockers) be a problem up to 4800-5000 rpm ? most of the time under 3500 rpm....driver/ cruiser. This is a budget build...not looking to rum a WOT

You’re going to spend about the same on factory replacements as you would that kit that I posted up above.

The cheapest you’re going to find for factory replacements is about $9 per spring x 16 and you will be at $144 for just springs.

That kit that’s up for grabs that I posted is $200 with the locks and retainers.

Depending on how many miles is on your 5.2 is now…the ones you have maybe good enough. If memory serves me correctly…a factory 5.2 cam’s lift is .430. So going to a .450 cam to me would not be worth it.

Sounds like what you’re after is basically a stock rebuild as a stock 5.2 usually runs out at around 4500.

Just my 2 cents…maybe others will chime in!!!

melling VS1298 are "stock" replacements, and melling notes that they are not suitable for their MTD-1 cam which specs out at 421/443

so at .450 you may wind up with an issue.

a quick math check says probably not, but i wouldn't go on that info without busting out the valve spring height checker tool thingy and verifying. published specs have been known to be wrong...
