512 cu Camshaft thinking

Hi, read over at moparts an interesting thread regarding this topic. AndyF´s information steered me towards the howards cam 723445-08 wich i chose for a 512 ci street cruiser build with TF 240 heads (B-Body station wagon).

I think TF has one of the most generous dynos on the planet....
TF claim with the above 243/247 @ 050 cam, a 440 made 620 hp.....

bolt together 512 deal with 631hp with a carb@only 6000.

My mates 440 Dart made bang on 600fwhp@6800rpm on track
12.6:1cr, MCH CNC Eddys@320cfm, 1050 Dominator, Victor intake, DC. .590 purple [email protected], 2" hdrs.
I think thats more realistic and is worked out on weight/mph.

Todays call was to Chris Paget at Bullet cams. Currently out of cores for the wide seperation

Being that you’re using efi I think that sounds pretty good. I know those systems can be real finicky if they don’t like the cam. Hopefully they can get you one in reasonable time.
 
Is the above a sol or hyd roller cam?
I would be asking Chris Paget if they dyno tested that cam & another with the same lobes on 106-8 LSA......& how much HP the 114 lost.

The 128 rule was devised for the SB Chev by D. Vizard but he claims it works well for most parallel valve heads. Better than just guessing....or asking a phone jockey.
Using 2.2" for the int valve size, I get 102 LSA for the 512.
In Vizard's BB Chev book he tests cam on 107 & 112 LSA, in a 468 & a 572 engine. The 107 cam made more hp everywhere through the rpm range, both engines. 20-25 hp more on average.
 
Honestly not looking for every ounce of hp to brag about it. I am looking more at the torque to sit the kids in their seats ;-)

I am looking at solid roller because i have issues with Hydraulic roller lifters.

Some rules are meant to be broken ;-) and theory writers annoy me more than diarrhea on the first date

The 20 hp difference from 108-114 is mere peanuts when looking at street driving. I already have a rowdy w5 headed 340 stroker and as much fun as it can be on the street i rarely run her up the rpm to her full potential.

Could be, but good things happen when using matched parts, the whole nine yards.

That’s more my style grind for a carbureted application. Not sure how well the FI-tech is going to like it. I see a lot of guys get pretty frustrated with that system with almost stock type cams. Schneider is defiantly and old school cam company. I’ve used a few of their cams about 20 years ago in a few different builds. Even ran a Schneider in my hemi for a bit.

Of course I’m sure Blewy is probably due to comment, stroke is own ego, talk in circles, ramble incoherently like a drunk neighbor, quote excerpts from the GM greats, and declare victory from behind the keyboard… :rofl::rofl:

I have the 1200 horse kit from fi tech. I understand it will be a little hard to run on that type of Cam but I'm gonna be running blended e 85 and 91 octane since the motor won't produce a lot of vacuum I should be able to be fine
