Like Famous Bob stated you probably need an external pickup and different oil pump. I currently have a Milodon 31015 deep pan with a single pickup with a Milodon 21001 pickup adapter on the Melling HV pump. I ported the adapter to make the inlet flow better (in my mind's eye). The adapter, like the stock system feeds the pump on the block side. To get more inlet flow they make different covers that include a pickup so you can feed both sides of the pump lobes at the same time (dual inlet). That needs a second oil pickup line. I just bought the cover and pickup in the classifieds in case my 540 loses oil pressure over 7000 RPM (if the motor wants to rev higher than 7000) and I have to add the outside feed to the pump lobes.
The 21001 adapter spaces out the pump so you have to use a longer oil pump drive shaft.
There are probably a lot of better ways to do this.
finally got around to pre-lubing the motor. had too much oil to the top end, the single line, swinging p/u, h.v. pump, sucked the pan dry quick. restricted the flow to the top, alls well now, old funny car pan worked great. a single line set-up will certainly feed a 6500 rpm engine. I may even have to go back to a standard pump tho------have a terrible heater motor-master cyl. clearance problem.(raised port heads-w/ mopar cast perf. valve covers make everything worse clearance wise. moral of the story-don`t use raised port heads on a 68 barracuda, unless u want 2 other headaches!-lol--bob:banghead:
removed the heater motor and built block of plate already, offset master cyl. adapter on order, will use flexable s.s. hose for the 2 lines on the master cyl. to the distribution block so I can swing it over to pull the valve cover. only thing I got figured out yet is, making the pushrod swing w/ it.remove the heater blower motor and use an adapter for the new type master cylinder.
