Just got the Mopar 590 cam from jegs, specs are [email protected] on a 104 intake CL.... I thought they were on a 106. I guess they have changed it?

Tell us about the engine and the ride it is going in.
Mike
The 590 will be a BIG cam in a 383. .
The 590 will be a BIG cam in a 383. Think 7000+ shift points. It's gonna want a very high stall converter. The 4000 stall you mentioned would be the minimum I would consider. 5000ish would probably be closer to optimum. Or a smaller cam.
That is going to be a big cam in anything and with it's LSA it isn't going to have nice street and idle manners.
It's a good cam. Sure, there are more modern grinds......but it was good when it was state of the art and it's still good now.
I'm tellin yall, I bet that is just a different version. Used to be, you could get them like that. The 528 was available at one time with both the 112 and 108 LSA, for example.
That cam was/is awesome...ran it in 1986 in my s/strip '71 Cuda 340, stock motor, all steel and with an 850DP, Strip Dom int., hdrs etc., was ok on the street but did have a 4200 verter and 4.30's, made 379hp and ran 12.3's@108. My mate runs the .590" in his 440 Dart over here, 3150 all in, 10.1's@130 1.39 60's, 5000 stall, 1050 Dom, the cams just starting to run out of puff at the top end though with 4.56/31's @6800, he says if he shifts anything over 6400 through the gears the car slows.
In a big block that .528 is a guaranteed 11 second combo.
If that .590 cam is running out of steam after 6400 I'd be looking at the heads. That's plenty of cam. That .528 cam is still within 5% of peak power at 6400 RPM.
