I picked up a '65 Dart wagon /6 3 on the tree now on the floor. I have an '68 A body SB 4 spd and bellhousing from a 340. I want to convert the wagon to a 273 4spd car. I've got the V8 link and I have done several swaps. This will be my first stick conversion. Any problems with this tranny swap? Clutch linkage? Trans X member? Tranny hump? Any other???? Any help?

The floor hump will be the hardest part to find as the 67 up is different but you could make it work.

Hump is different. You are good with the tranny, linkage, shifter, Trans cross member, and driveshaft (if from a Valiant or Barracuda). The Trick parts for using the 10.5 bellhousing and flywheel are available from Brewers Performance or Passon Performance. You will need 273 motor mounts and exhaust manifolds (or headers), a radiator. Probably brakes, good wheels and tires, and a better rear somewhere down the line.

Any questions call Brewers, they have lots of info and quality parts. I got ther 10.5 clutch conversion package for my 66, its made for the early-a body cars.... its awesome stuff, works perfect and shifts even better :burnout:

Going from the 9.5 bell housing to the 10.5 in my 65 I had to modify the Z-Bar... as pictured in top pic...

Then later on made one that was stronger... as stock Z-bars for these early A-body cars were weak... Especially when using the better clutch / pressure plates available for the 10.5 Bell and flywheels...

Below pictures may help if you are a self fabricator... Might give you a start...

Note... The bar in the bottom picture was made from Stainless Steel... Machined it so the wall was thicker as the stock ones are basically thin wall tubing/pipe that twisted and cracked easily...
Having had my cuda since 1973 and having Over 300 Thousand miles... I broke many Z-bars till I made the SS one...

Just Saying...

Another note... DVAP (Desert Valley Auto Parts) had several 64/65/66 cudas with 4 speed tunnels last time I was there... Not too long ago I helped a neighbor install one in his 1963 Valiant... Perfect fit... Have a Photo of it somewhere if you need it...

Had the same problem of breaking Z Bars in my 64 Barracuda, but was running a big block 10.95 scalloped Borg and Beck. If you are making a DVAP run sometime, I'd like to get a nice 66 manual tunnel. It is nice you can just buy the 10.5 conversion parts now, but your stuff looks really sweet!

I've got a '74 Dart sport hump in my '63 wagon - it was a pretty good fit. I used the bellhousing, trans and pedals from the '74 and adapted a hydraulic clutch setup
