I need to purchase 3 of these. Has anyone ever used any of the ones on e-bay for $129-149 w/ free shipping? I was wondering what kind of luck people have had with these cheap tanks. I also see some good looking ones for $189-229 range that are probably better quality. Any advise would be welcome.

Thanks

I bought one from the eBay auction. I haven't installed it yet, in Afghanistan right now. I did pull it out of the box, looks factory from what I can tell.

Give Jeff a shout at 521 Restorations. He will work with you. I have bought two tanks from him now and will continue to do business with him. He is extremely fair! Tell him you are a FABO member for a little extra.

Thanks for the info. I checked his website and it shows that he is currently out of stock on these. I will give him a call later and see when they are expected to get some more.

I bought one from ebay. It was the 149.00 ... shiny glossy outer finish. After I bought it I undercoated the part that mates up against the car and clear coated the rest of it. Its been in the dart for months now. No leaks, fit perfect, looks solid. I was debating between the cheapest one (which had a dull finish, vs the glossy finish).

latamud, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!

Do these tanks use an o-ring in the filler tube or a rubber seal on the outside? Thanks because I need a tank for my 62 and it has an o-ring. Can anyone measure the OD of the filler tube? THANKS

the only brand I would put on a car is the spectra premium brand tank; there made in canada and heavy gauge; if your going to replace it do it with a good part so you won't have to again

$100 more. I bought mine from Gastanks.com. Are they $100 better? Can't say for sure. tmm

I bought a filler neck grommet for my '63 from Jeff and it did not fit. It was for a'64-'66. The '63 uses an O ring. He sells the tank for a '63 but it is the '64-'66 tank and requires the '64-'66 style grommet which he supplies free with the tank. The '63 filler neck is the same O.D. and will work on the later tanks. The I.D. on the OE '63 tank is smaller than the later tanks and there is no way to shoe-horn the later style grommet in the hole. I tried.. and destroyed it... and Jeff was nice enough to refund my $ even though it was my F-up. Hope this info helps!

What is different about 63-66 gas tanks from 67+ ones. Is it just a few vent tubes?

.Larry
Thanks for that information. I think I have a round seal, I will check it, but I think it might be a 67 seal. Anyway the good news is the tank should fit!

I've used several of the spectra tanks & perfect fit/no issues but a tank would have to be way off to be a bad fit & I dont remember the prices. they had checkerboard patterns on the bottom & one case I either used one I bought for a later A on an early A or vice versa (was decades ago) & good fit/no issues. I undercoated em & some black roofing tar paper on the top
