63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

If you have ever seen some unmolested "survivor cars" you will see the factory haphazardly sprayed the radiator support and any other metal behind the grill a semi gloss black. Just standard procedure and probably all the pother car "brands" did also. I have a survivor 74 Ford here right now, and same thing. Since the 80s, I have owned many " survivors" as in cars that had never been painted since they left the factory. Was easy back then, not so much now days! That of course does not mean anyone painting their old classic can not do what they like.

It remind me of the people that paint ALL their interior metal a gloss and everything in the interior, seats and all, is the same color and degree of gloss. satin or whatever. Even black interior Mopars bnack then had about 3-4 different shades of black between the dash, other interior metal, door panels, upholstery.

Otherwise, all glodd or same shade of color, it just does not look right, plus there are reasons the upper dash in not gloss due to the glare it causes. JHMO
Not all cars though.. it was certain models/grills i thought? my 62 was all body color behind the grill

I certainly wouldn't know~ my first mopar was a 66 valiant in 1969-1971. Funny, I don't remember much about the Valiant~ but it was a fun car

However, this was the front of my Dart a while back

I also had a survivor 62 Lancer but I did the body/paint about maybe 2012 or so, but I really don't recall about the black out behind the grill area.

My opinion is IF anyone can see the body color behind a grill in any car, it detracts from that car. Of course, some colors would be more distracting than other colors.

Everyone likes what they like, i like body color back there.. .wish i had done my inner fenders in body color instead of black although :(

You know at one time, I was thinking to black out the engine compartment until I was "caught", ok ok, but this really doesn't take away from the engine compartment. I still need to redo the air cleaner, it has a bunch of pits from rust, so I was thinking it might look better a mattish or semi gloss black. Black just goes so well with the Sage green.

but the front area being a matt black looks just fine, I could have gone either way.

Back to the air cleaner box~ Black would definitely look better with that blue Super six decal.

I went ahead and started installing the dash~ I can still lean the dash out in case I were to have to get to the AC lines if they were to leak(I doubt they will leak). But I do need to lean out the dash to connect the AC duct lines and various wiring.

Your air cleaner looks like it’s off as Aspen/Volare, there’s a plastic duct on the inner fender the hose connects to, might be what you’re looking for for your radiator support hole

I'll be darned, I have been looking all over the place for something to connect that hose to~ thank you for the mystery vent thing;) Now where to find one of those things?

:thankyou: :thankyou:

I have noticed since I painted my valve cover wrinkle black, it gets dingy pretty quick, dust, etc. and very hard to clean unless I remove the cover. Same would go for the air cleaner top. However, I do have another top laying around I could play with. It crosses my mind to redo the valve cover paint matt finish paint vs wrinkle, Don't get me wrong, I love the wrinkle look ;)

Black wrinkle finish on the air cleaner

My valve cover looks so dingy:( I'm not going to do it right now, but I'll take it off later and try something different.

Years ago when I had my speed shop (Powre Haus) a friend asked me if I could save his rare factory aluminum wheels. He had a buddy sand blast them, only charged $10 each, but used gravel. They were pitted beyond most folk's ability to fix. I tried several things with powder coating, stripping the previous attempt each time. What I found was a blend of a base coat (Near Chrome) and clear coat -- I mean a seriously THICK clear coat.

As for your air cleaner, may I suggest a black wrinkle finish to cover the pits, then a heavy dose of matte or satin clear to smooth it out. It will give it depth, hide the rust pits, and be unique. Think about it.

Well, I started on the Decklid with the self leveling body filler, worked kind of ok, better than regular body filler. Then it got hot and so that led me to the AC area.

Worked on the dash, a lot of tidying up to do, the vent hoses sure take up a lot of space, especially the drivers side~ kind of interferes with the wiper motor arms, I'll figure it out. Got to listen to my iphone songs while playing. The AC is connected on blows, just need to hook up the trinary switch, still waiting on an AC fitting:(
The fuel gauge is a misfit but matches the ohms on the factory sender, so I'm ok with it.

making salmon, got to go;)

Just looking...

Draw your air from the inner fender with this Aspen Tube and the previously picture Aspen fender flange.

Keeps the tube shorter too???

mmm, I don't know, I'd have to make another large hole. I always wondered about taking in dusty air from the fender area.
