Installing one trunk torsion bar after it snapped, any tricks or tips on how to do this looks like a lot of force is required to get them into place. Would it be easier with the trunk off?

Lube all pivot and slide areas first. Prop the lid open all the way and use a BIG long screw driver or long strong bar to lever the torsion bar enough to get it into the bracket. Install the hinge end first along with it's plastic guide. Then work on twisting the bracket end of the torsion bar. A rubber mallet can help get it to slide sideways into the slot. There are usually 3 slots to choose from. Use the original one if the lid stayed up properly. Change to another slot if you need more or less tension to hold the lid up.

This probably goes without saying… You really want a helper to hold the trunk open. I tried using a hood prop and every other time I hit the rod with a mallet, the drang trunk would drop on my head. Not my finest hour but it explains a few things, don’t it?

Wear safety glasses.
