65 dart 318 swap tranny question

I have a 2 door hardtop 65 dart I'm swapping the 225 /6 for a 318 I picked up a 318 out of a 76 truck changed everything over that needs to be on motor now wondering if the automatic 727 trans will fit an if not what trans should I use thanks for the help

I;ve seen your car around the southside of Indy, I also have a 65 Dart I'm building. But to answer your question yes the 727 wikk fit. My understanding is the pinch weld were the firewall meets the toe board needs to be trimmed ti fit the 727. The 904 is a better fit.

Thanks Tim .. Do you know if the 904 from the slant six will bolt on a 318 and yea that's where I bought the car from guy owed 2800 to bank for it hadn't drove it much in the last yr so I got it for 3000 an now trying to improve an finish the interior of it it was all baby blue stock faded color butt it will hopefully be back on the road before end of summer so might see me down that way again

You will need a V8 904 if you go that route(904).When I first dropped the 360/904/8 3/4 I used a driveshaft from a 73 Dart Swinger 318/904/7 1/4.Just a tip if you get rid of the truiniun driveshaft.

Go looking for a later 904 out of a 5th Avenue or Diplomat. Will have the lower gear set. Also, the original 65 shifter linkage will not work.
