Hi folks! My thread on accelerator linkage disappeared!! So I am kinda starting from scratch here. 1966 Barracuda 273cc 2-bbl. Converted it to a 4-bbl Formula S. Paid a fortune to a restoration company that rushed it out the door at the end because they were going out of business. No accelerator linkage!! Cable from the pedal is wired to the carburetor. I had started a thread and people had good ideas posted there but it has disappeared!

Anyways, here are some pics of what I have. Some had requested this so they could be more specific in their advice. Thank you for that! Here they are.

Biggest hack job for an accelerator pedal ive seen yet. Sorry you got hosed. Do you have the correct V8 pedal assembly?

Hi:

I am fairly certain I have the correct V8 pedal assembly because it was originally a V8. The car had 41,000 on it when I bought it in 1996 and I only ran it up to 81,000.

Agreed. First of all, automatic transmission or 4 speed? Second, you may need a throttle adapter, pin, and brackets to make it right. The springs are dangerous and the right parts will help that. Here is a link to a 2-4 barrel conversion on a small block. Lot of good posts, photos, and part numbers for the parts you need. Read through the thread, take notes, and come back here if you have questions. Oh and now you have at least 2 open threads for the same parts and issues. That makes it mighty hard for us and you to keep track of answered questions.

I guess I am confused what I was supposed to get from that thread. There isn't much on the linkage. It is an automatic with factory air. Has an OEM Carter 4bbl carb.

It is clear that I am missing the cable clamp (seems universal according to Layson's), the adjustable rod (threaded - don't know the name), a 4bbl bell crank, and...I am not sure what else...

So you have an automatic. You will need all the kickdown linkage and their brackets from the carb to the transmission. Without the adapter for the carb and the throttle pin, you can't hook up the accelerator, springs, or the kickdown. All those parts are listed in the thread I linked. It should look something like this on the topside. These photos aren't 66 specific but you should get the idea. The bottom photo is on a bit newer engine so it will look a bit different.

I'm sorry...I don't see anything in that thread about linkage. Perhaps it is not the correct thread? I see cleaning and painting the intake manifold, cleaning and painting the valve covers, installing an Edelbrook carb, and creating a coil mount. That's it.

Thank you for trying to help, though.

The linkage goes with the car. It is deigned to work with that specific body. If you don't have that specific linkage, you will need to start a parts wanted thread to find it. Linkages from other models may not work with your combination. The Lokar cable set up may be your best bet. There is a lot of things not right with how things are hooked up at the carb. Study up because that is very important to make the system work properly.

Looks like you need the proper accelerator cable, the 4bbl cable clamp holder, the forward adjustable rod, the proper '64-6 carb stud, and the 4bbl bell crank. Also, the factory only used one return spring that year. Having a second is not a bad idea though unless you're getting it judged at a car show. Those springs should not be mounted like that however. With the correct stud, there is a nice smooth section they mount in so they swivel and not bend. If I get the chance, I'll post some more photos of the correct parts. I've posted some of the parts in the past if you want to do a search.

66 Barracuda Formula S Commando original throttle set up. Mine is a 4 speed, so no kickdown linkage. I would use a Bouchillion cable kickdown at this point.

Well, not totally stock for a 4 speed. Your carb stud should not have a ball on it. That's one for an automatic.
I have never seen a 65-66 manual carb stud that was not like that. I have had dozens of manual trans Commando/Charger AFBs and they all were like that. What do you think it should be? Picture?

Could be that mine came off a different year originally, but, both my 4119 and 4121 Carter AFB's came with the one on the left.
