First off, welcome to the site, cool to have another 1966 Valiant! Where do you live? I am in St. Cloud, MN. What are you intentions for this car, a driver, drag race, stock? Did your car have a slant six originally? If so you will need to change the center steering "drop" link to one from a V-8 car. Your motor mounts need to be for an early 66-66 a-body V-8 car, you can also get ones for a "slant six to V-8 conversion" from Shumacher Creative Industries. (I got mine there, worked awesome!) 273 and 318 had a different driverside motor mount than the 340 and 360. The oil pan is easy, just need one from a car. Was your car an automatic or manual transmission? Any 904 trans will fit real nice, a A727 will also fit but you may need to modify some linkages to work. The auto trans just needs to be from a car or 2-wheel drive truck. Do you have a rear trans cross member? 1963-1966 a-body cars all had the same rear crossmember for all the different trans, just need a new rubber mount. The A833 4-speed will work but it needs to be from an a-body, ones from 1966 to 1976 will bolt right in. Any 273, 318 (post-1966 318), 340, 360 will fit in your car. The K-frame will also work with these engines. Keith. 8)

You gotta post some pics! Here is my 66 340 4-speed Valiant!

Keith pretty well covered everything. Just thought I'd add if you want to run an automatic unless it is going to be a real high HP race car running slicks you don't need a 727. The 904 will do you just fine and fits much better in an early A body. Just install a Trans-go TF-1 or TF-2 shift kit in it and tear up the road.

ok first thnaks for all your help i will have a ton more questions but first will a early 70's 383 fit in the 66 valiant ?..i have those motor mouts by schumacher for 273,318,340,360...if i have to buy new mounts for a 383 thats fine..but i am pretty sure the k member(?) in my car is for a 6 cylinder..thats what the vin number tells me..if that makes sense...thanks for any help

and i will take some pictures this weekend and post them...it has a rollcage and a narrowed ford 8.8 rear end in it..i donot know much about it..but i want to drive it on the street and some racing..
