67' Barracuda 273 (Camshaft Results at the Track)

-
To make the power band on a smaller grind come in later in RPM you must retard the timing at the cam.. not advance it- then it comes in sooner and dies off earlier

A question I have though is- Can you use the solid lifter pushrods/rockers with a hyd cam?

I knew that. I wanted to keep the bottom end. Lower rpm's is where I spend most of my time. I'm not really complaining. It runs well I just know there is a lot more performance there without getting too radical. tmm

Alan {D-Dart}

We are going to pop in the Camcraft #P820-B 'D-Dart Camshaft' next.

.493" / .503" Lift ~ 284* Duration ~ 60* Overlap

We plan on taking the Barracuda to Rockingham Dragway on September 4th for
a Match-Race and Filming of the Event.

We are also bringing with us, an Edelbrock LD-4B Aluminum Dual-Plane Intake with a
Holley #3778 {700 CFM} Carburetor, to pop on for secondary runs.

One I have been waiting for :prayer:

Chuck Perry,

We are looking forward to see how this Camshaft performs, as we never used
this unit before.

We got this Camshaft in 1969/1970 from a Parts Manager at a Dodge Dealership in
Pawling, New York - along with the Holley 700 CFM Carburetor.

The Camshaft is still in the white and blue Chrysler Parts box {Part #2843919}

Sat for 40+ years, and never installed in a block.

Paul,
I sent you a PM on the Rockingham test.

Alan,

Got the 'PM'.

On the D-Dart Camcraft Camshaft.

My best guess is that this unit will probably have a better idle than the Crane Zip-488
Camshaft, and improved Low-End torque.

But, I fear that the 284* Duration will limit Top-End power.

Camcraft Camshafts.

#P-820-B {1966 D-Dart}
.493"/.503" Lift ~ 284"/ 284" Duration ~ 60* Overlap

#P-820-Bx {1966 D-Dart 'Optimal Race'}
.504"/.515" Lift ~ 288*/288* Duration ~ 70* Overlap

Anybody hear of the........1967 '273 Max-Race' with a 7200 RPM Red-Line

:blob::blob::blob:Awesome ,have always Loved those cam tests ! Named my son Cam{eron}!My favorite engine part ! You can make sooo much of a difference in an engine with a Cam change! :burnout:

Anybody using a Compu-Cams Xtreme Energy Camshaft {Solid Lifter}

Grind # XS282S

Lift.............. .520" Intake / .540" Exhaust
Duration....... 282* Intake / 290* Exhaust
@ .050" Lift.. 244* Intake / 252* Exhaust
LSA............. 110*
CL............... 106*

It has the lift of an old Crane Zip-538, but less duration.

Specks,,,,

Unfortunately we do not have those 'exact' numbers off of the early
Camshafts.

The Norris '273 Race' have..
.466 Intake / .466 Exhaust...{Lift}
270* / 270*..................... {Duration}
224* / 224* @ .050
110* LSA
106* CL

Ironic. Picked up a cam from Crower's "leftovers sales" shelf. Worked gang busters in a 318 stick 4by 4 truck.Exactly, the same specs.

never did find out what cam was in my old 65 dodge dartcharger 273 .. here is a video of it after I installed headmann headers with x-pipe and ultraflo mufflers. ld4b intake and stock carb. sounded awesome ! video is a little trimmed and sound is not quite on. this little motor would scream right up 7K shifts without a hic-up. love that little motor! scroll down on this page into the larger box ... video is there. Was wondering if you were going to finish the cam testing. I realize that it's a lot of work changing them but I was curious about the D/Dart cams. Also, do you want to get rid of them when the testing is over? I'd like to change the one in my car (high lift cam with mushroom lifters) back to the original since it doesn't idle at all.

Also you stated that you were doing this for a magazine article. Is that still in the works?
