How do you verify matching number motor and tranny on a 67 GTS 383-4sdp?

I believe the number on a 67 is stamped on the top of the bellhousing area on the engine block. 68's are that way anyway.

On the transm. there should be a flat machined pad towards the bottom of one of the sides on the main case.

Check the date codes. VINs weren't stamped on until 1968.

You can't. VIN's weren't stamped 'til '68. Casting dates and build dates are all you can go on.
