68 Barracuda Slant Six Automatic Transmission

This thread is so wrong in so many ways. Carry on!:BangHead::BangHead:

If you do go with the 904, and hop up the motor at all, change the governor. Stock will upshift at full throttle somewhere just over 3 grand. Plus, at part throttle it will upshift into second almost as soon as you get moving, and forget about having a passing gear at highway speeds. I put a 5,000 rpm governor in mine. Alternatively, you can manually shift even a stock Torqueflite, and a sixties era factory automatic trans column shifter is an easy one to do that. In fact, I prefer those old automatic trans column shifters to automatic floor shifters - column lever is right at hand, while floor shift is a reach down from the steering wheel. Pulling that shifter down into second and simultaneously flooring the throttle will kick down quicker than relying on the automatic kick down. Of course, that's assuming you're actually driving the car and not just running at the strip.

If I had an automatic setup, I'd probably just run that. That said, a slant six 4-speed is fun to drive. Much more so, to me, than a manual three speed, column or floor shift - and I've run them all at one time or another.
