69 Cuda resto

Awesome motivation for me seen as it looks like i get my 69 cuda out of cold storage in a few months. Also Jeff's documentation and car are amazing. In person it is just beautiful!

thanks to both, I'll check out his thread and try to live up to it!!

Awesome progress so far, and though I am late to the thread, I am glad you were ok after that hit... Cant wait to see the continuing progress..

oh, no!! It was quite real. Although I'm sure there's a proverb in there somewhere....lol. You've heard of crash test dummies, right? I'm just a crash dummy.

Looks like the car did not take the hit well, I love to repair metal but that car looks like tit needs a new front! We actually did that a lot in the body shop in the 70's, mostly rustangs and comono's, but I do recall one real nice 68 44 cuda the guy did pretty much the same thing you did. we found another which had been rear ended and a little cut and paste and walla, nice car. We cut the floors at the seams inside and at the front posts, measure real careful before you cut, then everything else is easy. Good luck, if it turns out you can't piece it back together the guys here will surely assist in removing the carcass, after all it is just a car. Glad you are OK, good luck.

When you make a hard boiled egg a chicken is involved. When you make chicken salad a chicken is totally commited. I think at this point we're making chicken salad....lol.

Action pic for ya' Cudachick

Finally we got the driver side quarter cut out. The wheel house is worse than we expected but other than that there were no suprises.

Sunday I'll see about getting the trunk extension, or at least what's left of it, out in one piece so we can modify the ones we have and do a little sanding on the passenger side.

Now that we have a little more experience things should start progressing a little faster.

More to come Sunday

O.K., so for anyone out there that is considering using Duster trunk extensions here's what I did with mine to make them work. Once we get them on there will be some more forming to be done, but the manufacturer says you can only use the drop down portion on a 'Cuda. Not being an experienced enough body man I said 'hog wash!!! I can make this work!!!'

First I straightend the lips on the trank pan side and the rear, then I used a straight edge to measure from the outside face to the trunk pan attachment lip at the front and the back. I transfered these measurements to the new panel and drew a line for my bend. I then drew a parallel line for my cut. I cut off the offending piece, worked it down a vise, bending as I went. Voila!!!! '69 'Cuda trunk extensions. Oh, the genius that is me...JK...lol. Then again, these only cost $40 so if I screw it up I'm not out much...lol!!!

For all intents ands purposes I'm sure these will work fine.

24 hours of LeMons quotables.
"What could possibly go wrong?"
Sorry to hear about you smacking that wall. I've always liked those 67-69s and it's a shame to see one get hit like that. I'm just glad you're ok, that steering wheel was messed up. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I'm the Alfred E. Neuman of car restoration....'What, me worry?'

Bill, if you need any pics or measurements of a NOS set, let me know...........Did ya ever find out if you still have the original red line that was in the trunk when you bought the car?

Man does this bring back memories!

After vacation and then working 11 days straight I finally had a chance to work on the car. This time we actually started putting things BACK TOGETHER!!!

The frame rails after I Treated in inside with rust neutralizing primer and the tops with weld trhough primer

View attachment DSC00290.jpg

After I stitched in the new pan and knocked the welds down a bit

Still need to spot weld down the rails and across the front but it sure feels good to be putting parts IN rather than tearing them out!

Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
