I'm putting my dash back together and everything's going well. Just a quick (and probably stupid) question. I have a separate hot (red) and I believe a ground (black) wire that I'm 90% sure were BOTH connected to the marked red post (separated by washers and bolts) on the circuit board when disassembled but now that just doesn't make sense to me. Any quick thoughts?

The black is NOT ground!!!!

The red comes from the battery, the black goes back out to the alternator, and also branches off in the harness to feed the ignition switch, headlight switch, and fuse "hot" buss.

They MUST be connected together and insulated. Originally, the two studs are the ammeter, which must have been bad

Here read this:

Also, please wander over to MyMopar if the site is up, and download a service manual. Some of those over there came from the guys here at FABO. They are free

Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated....

Sounds like someone put all the original hardware on the one stud. Maybe so it could be all put back in proper locations.
I'll bet my quarter that there is nothing wrong with the ALT' gauge. My theory... A previous owner read so much online crap about these gauges being fire starters that they took the gauge out of the line to relieve their worry.
