If I was going to buy an EV it would be from a company committed to them. We are getting the Chinese ones up here soon. I imagine resale will be brutal and they will be considered disposable.

From what I see they will be cheaper than the competition but not dirt cheap so I expect that there will be limited buyers.

From what I've heard, the $12,000 Chinese EVs are about the size of a Fiat 500 or a little smaller, the cost to bring them up to safety standards outside of China seems to bring the cost up to more like $20,000 (perhaps there's also some subsidies going on that they can't use on exports), many seem to have the battery die in less than 10 years, and getting repair parts outside of China is a nightmare. So the super cheap Chinese cars, if they show up in Canada, aren't likely to be an unstoppable threat as much as something a few people desperate for a new car pick up. Addressing these issues will, of course, bring up their costs.

But on the other hand, Detroit made a lot of missteps that let the Japanese manufacturers get established in the US. They neglected the low priced, high fuel economy segment for a long time, then when they realized their mistake, rushed new cars to market too fast. GM swung for the fences with the Vega, loading it up with bleeding edge technology like a sleeveless aluminum block. Naturally, the blood on the bleeding edge turned out to be their own. The Ford Pinto could have been decent if it weren't for the memo putting it in writing that settling a few lawsuits would be cheaper than protecting the fuel tank. Chrysler tried to import British cars before importing Mitsubishis. And AMC just chopped the tail off the Hornet.

It looks like they might make that same mistake again with a lack of good entry level cars.

Not allowed to be sold until they pass Federal inspection and will only be available for certification and testing purposes.

Then.. there will be 49000 of them allowed into Canada year one.

I will not be buying any ev period. I might consider some type of hybrid, but that's it. All my vehicles are paid for and in excellent condition, which I work hard to maintain. Even at the extorsionist price of gas currently, it's still cheaper than payments on a $50k plus new(er) pos.
 
Well, to be fair ABodyjoe, these vehicles have a range of 400 plus miles. Most people don't drive that much in a week so they may only charge a couple of times a month. The problem is the lack of infrastructure across our countries, especially in rural areas. That's where plug in Hybrids are gaining big. The units we sell get between 80-100 kms per charge and then will automatically revert to the engine if need be.

Most people don't drive that much everyday and recharge when they get home. The kicker is that these hybrids are up to 30-40,000 cheaper to buy!

Now you are effectively driving an EV but at ICE prices which is where the Morons in governments should have placed the Environmental directives in the first place.

We would be way closer to the 2030 Pollution mandate with this plan but, Biden and Trudeau knew better than the industry.

A total fu#k up in both countries caused by the biggest idiots ever to run a government!!
It seems more like businessmen paid their lobbyists to convince politicians, that don't know better, to build this junk.
Why don't you put the blame where it actually belongs, rather than bashing someone you actually know very little about, except for the stupid lies that opposition says, just so they can confuse the issues and further confuse the voters, for their own means.
And they've dumbed down the schools so much, that people don't have the training to figure out what has happened either.

I leased a 24 Charger Scat Pack about a year ago. It was dirt cheap. It is the nicest, fastest, most fun car I have ever had.

It’s faster than a Hellcat Redeye. 670 hp, 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. Instant torque.

With that said, I think Stellantis really screwed up. They built a car with no market.

Mine had an $80k sticker. Nobody wants an $80k Dodge.

There are no low cost options, like previous Charger and Challenger.

If you are a greenie, you probably don’t want a Dodge. Technology is a little dated and the range is only about 250 miles.

Muscle car guys generally dislike (or hate) EVs.

It weighs 6000 pounds. Hardly a sports car.

Mine has been good, but the forums are full of horror stories of problems.

I heard they only sold about 200 Charger EVs 1Q this year.

I am definitely not an EV guy, but it has been a fun experience. Don’t think I want another one though.

I would never buy an EV for the depreciation issues stated here. In another year when my lease is up, I bet it is a $30k car, at the most.

If you haven’t ever driven one, you should do it, just for the experience.

This right here. The proportions on everything, from the sail panel to the hood to doors is ALL wrong. They're hideous in person.

When you go to the Dodge website, you can tell that the photographer was really struggling to find a good angle, and still not getting the job done. They know the back half of the two-door car isn't well, and they try to cover it up with tire smoke and action shots. It's pretty glaring when you notice it.

My son works at a dealership. When they first came out, they were not being sold, no one wanted them so the dealership offered leases to employees at $250/mo, just to get them on the road so people could see them and hopefully build interest in them... smmfh....
I live in Reno and I have seen exactly NONE around here so far, but I have seen 5 Hornets. Not bad 4 a car that was introduced, what, something like 3 years ago. My brand loyalty went from 100% to zero pretty much overnight when they dropped the Challenger and previous Charger Hemi cars! A hand grenade 6 cyl in an American muscle just doesn't do it for me and an electric is far worse!

Yeah, they're better in darker colors, they don't look like they're squinting quite as bad...

In 30 years because it did not sell it will be worth way more than it sold for .Its a mopar you know it takes time for the value to go up but once it does its high. Look at the dusters, at one point and time they were all over now you have to pay out your pocket to get one.

A 230 volt level 2 charger uses 3,300-19,200 watts, (5,000+ watts is similar to a clothes dryer) For example, running a 7.2 kW level 2 charger is equivalent to running 3 central AC units simultaneously.
It takes from 4-10 hours to fully recharge a battery depending on the size.

A commercial fast charger uses 50,000-350,000 watts while taking 20-45 min. to fully charge a battery depending on size. Fast chargers can wear out a battery packs faster over time. An occasion fast charge isn't an issue but daily fast charges could cause premature failure.


Food for thought before you pul the trigger.

Be wary.

There's a lot of "smoke and mirrors " going on.


Also, before you buy an EV, check resale value of the model you are considering. Do not go by advertised "asking price" as most are selling for substantially less than that.
 
Yup in the summer in NJ my ac adds about $500 to my electric bill that's about a month of 3 cars driving....
And NYC and Cali have brown outs ..
Unless you have a solar panel and free electricity
