I'm buying parts for spring time work on my 1973 Duster, and one thing I am having trouble with is replacement rear wheel bearings. They haven't made noise so far, but they are 52 years old, and I plan to drive the car more this year.

The 7-1/4" axle has the 10 inch brakes and big bolt pattern, so the 1.399" axles should be in there. I need a set of bearings and the retainer collars. I've been looking at various websites and ebay, and the ones I find are either wrong or the older smaller bearing size.

I wasn't planning on pulling the axles, but I'm adding 1-3/16" (30 mm, but this is AMERICA!!!) wheel spacers so the rear track doesn't look so stupid, and that requires longer wheel studs, and that requires pulling the axle shafts out. I already got new oil seals, and I figure if I'm going this far, might as well change the old bearings too.

Rear wheel bearing numbers for the 1973 Duster with 7-¼" rear axle and 10" drum brakes are listed in the following table:

Bearings include (or should include) the collar.

Note that most numbers are variations of the same base number. Some listings may include extra dashes, example: RWC35-YYR RWC-35-YYR

These bearings fit the following applications:
  • 1973 - 1976 A-body 7-¼” axle with 10" drum brakes
  • 1976 - 1980 F-body 7-¼” axle, 10" drum brakes
  • 1977 - mid-1982 M-body 7-¼” axle, 10" drum brakes
  • 1981 - mid-1982 J-body 7-¼” axle, 10" drum brakes
  • 1970 - 1972 E-body 7-¼” axle, 10" drum brakes
  • 1969 - early 1971 B-body 8-¼” axle, 10" drum brakes

The 7-¼" rear axle in the 1960 - 1972 A-body and the 1973 - 1976 A-body with 9" drum brakes is a different smaller bearing. Mid-1982 and later 7-¼" rear axles have the later 8-1/4" axle tube/ends with a different bearing.
