My son is for wanting to build a bad boy 7.25 rearend. If for no other reason just to say he did because he can and has been doing research on it. The question is this. I found a guy selling a 7.25 auburn spool he thinks out of a jeep. Just the unit, not the entire rearend will it work in a 1971 7.25 rearend and work with all the gears? Never opened up a 7.25 before, so I am not sure what works in it, with it or whatever. The guy is asking $50 Obo, so it's not putting alot of risk out there if I buy it and it doesn't work out. I just would rather be in the know before.

Im no expert, but i thought the jeeps used an 8.25 or dana 30/35's... which is what i see listed on the current auburn website... im sure someone that knows more will chime in on this...

The problem I ran across trying that was a complete lack of replacement parts available.
I still have a clutch type spool for the 7.25 sitting here that I have never been able to find parts for.

The guy that is selling it mentioned that he bought it in a sales lot of drivetrain parts from a family who was selling it as an estate sale. So very little info was audible on it unfortunately. But the guy does have a bacholers in automotive technology and diesel. So I'm sure he is hopefully fairly confident in what he thinks it is. Either way I'm intrigued by it. I'm going to meet him at the university he works at to pick it up. I'll get pics up of it with measurements to see if we can verify anything. Looking to pick up a 7.25 rearend as a test mule so we don't damage the factory original in the car. Guy a couple hours away has some to pick from.

Well, got the 7.25 auburn unit. First off the guy had his friend deliver to my driveway on his way home from work. Very cool as he is a 45 minute drive each way otherwise. He had it wrapped in two plastic bags in a box with newspaper stuffed around it. So I didn't get a physical look at it until I had paid him for it and in the house. Looks clean, complete and in good shape. Then my son noticed that it had two letters stamped on it that no one wants to see. Gm. Lol yeah, I think it' safe to get its not mopar. I could be wrong, but not optimistic. Lol.

Of course going to do some research, try our 3.91 gear on it to see if it fits and what markings are similar if any. Plus, I'm really hoping someone here can tell me what I got for sure. Thanks.
