Bend the bracket so the switch hits the pedal.

It's a basic on/off switch. It is on when the plunger is fully extended, and turns off when you press on the plunger and loose contact on the back of the switch to make the lights turn off.

Adjust the switch so the plunger is depressed enough with the pedal up to make the lights go off, but when you push down on the pedal, it makes contact and turns the lights on.

Here are some pictures to help you of our 71 Valiant.

There is a slot where it mounts and you can adjust it forward or back to get the switch to be depressed when the pedal is up and let the plunger extend fully when the pedal is pressed to make the lights go on..

If you go to O'Reallys or NAPA they should show an alternative switch which is threaded and has nuts so you can move the switch

thanks for the info and pictures but i also need a picture of what stops the brake pedal from coming back to far and hitting the bracket and switch to much that the bracket bends. I can adjust the switch on the bracket but the pedal can go past the stop point.

I don't see any dead stop or spring attached to the pedal to bring it up, it seems like it just returns from the rod connected to the master cylinder. Could someone have changed the master and put the wrong rod on it? Could something be wrong with the master cylinder (worn/high or flat spot to make it hang up?

These are the best angles that I can get of it. It's blocked by a bracket from the other side...

I hope this helps you.
