EDIT: UPDATE: V10 is too far away to get even, here's the project plans instead.

Car: 1970 Plymouth Duster, Originally slant six.
Second owners scrapped the six, and dropped in an 80's LA 5.9 360 from a 2wd pickup truck.
I got the car in 2006, drove it for 2 years til it wasn't safe and put it away.

Fast forward to June this year I find new interest in restoring her.

The vision: 20mpg, 400hp, more torque. This is a job for a Turbo Diesel running Bio-Diesel. Looking to be able to tow a medium sized air stream, or bass boat size boat.

What it needs:

100% re-wire
All new: Brake lines, Fuel lines, fuel cell, shocks, rear springs, clutch, Carb, headers, master cylinder, rear end dif., radiator+ all hoses, battery

Upgraded: rear suspension, disc brakes up front, dash dials (for RPM, engine temp, oil temp, oil pressure, voltage.) headlights.

Body work interior and paint are all a wayyy after thought of getting her structurally up to snuff.

WHAT I HAVE: a 1996 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) sport. Hoping the rear end, leaf springs, master cylinder will all be useful. is there anything else that would be able to be used?

Thanks again!

Your gonna need to cut a lot of sheetmetal and structure . F.Y.I., it takes 2 computers to operate the engine . One from a 6 cylinder and one from a 4 cylinder and they have to talk to each other . They also have a funky firing order and I think it's 54d.,90d.,54d.,90d., etc . until the cycle is complete . I looked into this a long time ago and this is a swap that will give you nightmares . good luck

The computers from the truck should be just fine to use though correct?

V10s are not great.

Ford tried and failed big time, Dodge tried and did ok...

It's a big heavy complex engine that makes more torque than you need.
There's a guy near me with a viper V10 in a B body, it looks super dated already and he sold it cuz it sucks...

He had to move the fire wall 5 inches I think?
As soon as you move the fire wall it screws you at any NHRA event. If your moving the fire wall you best be making 1000 HP, not to mention altered fire wall puts you in convertible roll cage specs. So at 11 flat you need a full cage...

It's not a sexy engine

I kind of agree. Blah truck engine. 310hp and 450 ft lbs. For way less effort a 360 can get you there
I agree that it would probably be a lot of work to install and get running. The truck v10 is very. very different from the Viper v10. That said, I have the truck v10 in my Ram dually, and I rather like it. It can really cruise effortlessly at speeds, loaded or not. The biggest drawbacks are poor economy(10mpg), almost no aftermarket parts, and very little information on it.

If i remember the spec, the v10 is something like 14 inches longer than a big block by the time you hang the front drive on it. Agree that for the cost of a low buck 360 or 408, we could blow the doors off that iron truck v10.

Buy a Hemi Police interceptor whole car if you want a late model Mopar engine. V10's eat fuel with no return of HP. You don't need that torque unless your going to pull a trailer.
