Started pulling apart the 340. Don't know much about it, but it has forged pistons, solid lifters, adjustable rockers and dual valve spring. My issue...no casting numbers on the heads. Ad said 587 heads, but no numbers anywhere on either head. Is this common? Valves appear to be 2.02- 1.6(ish, harbor freight caliper). No paperwork or anything. Looks super clean, bores look great! Any idea what heads they could be?

Found a damn near perfect bench and went that direction... oh well. 340 is dissasembled and heading to the machine shop. Making progress!

Door jambs primed. Going to stay that way for a while until I can afford a nice paint job. Starting to look like a car again!

Playing with the idea of a home made minitub. I have a spring relocation kit from uscartool, I have a part dart with an excellent trunk pan and stock tubs(only good sheet metal left on the car), I am a welder...anyone do it before? I could spend the $280 on the kit but it seems so simple to do...

I have never made mini tubs, just bout every thing else You are a welder! Sheet of 20 ga plate is $33 or18 ga is what $50? A few cutoff wheels on the right angle grinder is $10 and some mig wire!!!! A litttle cut here and weld there!!! Spent a total of what, $50?? Like why would anyone pay for kit to tie frame frames?

A bit of a time lapse here. I couldn't find any info anywhere on replacing a spring mount. I took 1000 measurements, made my own reference points and went for it. Used a bob to make reference points on the floor as well.I wouldnt recommend fixing a frame this way, but I also added weld inside the frame after I made the cut for the spring relocation for safe measure. In conjunction with the US Cartool kit, I'd say its stronger than it was before Going to finish the relocation kit this weekend

Drivers side just about done. Went with a jegs wheel and it was a great choice for the money. 15x10 6.5 backspace and 325-50-15 m&h's on the way. Also "upgraded" to 11 inch drums because I switched to bbp.

Seam sealed . I got two versions: the brushable stuff posted earlier in the thread and the $15/tube stuff from NAPA. Used the brushable stuff (3m,expensive) first and was immediately dissapointed so I shamefully ragged it up, broke out the caulking gun and smeared it with a glove to get the right look. Much better

Set of take off wheels and tires. Going to be tighter than a knats *** stretched over a rain barrel but with some creative trimming should be ok

Your car is in about the same shape mine is and the rust holes in the same spots. Front floor pans will be addressed later on. Im working from back to front. I did my mini tubs the same way, other than I replaced the outer wheel well on both sides while i was there. Mine was very rusty with no wheel well lip on either side. New 1/4's as well. Working on the driver side currently. I just had to replace the spring perch on the driver side as well. I don't want to crud your thread up with my pictures but I have posted a few over in the "what are you doing with your car today" thread.
Nice work! Car looks great

4 speed linkage squared away. My dad gave me a 4 speed mechanism that probably came out of one of his thousand f body or g body Chevys in the 80s and 90s. Thats right, dads a Chevy guy . But I was happy to use it and it saved me a $220+ order from brewers. Dissasembled, cleaned greased and ready. Made some linkage from my dads stash and pictures from a book and had the selectors so I went for it and its better than new
