I have gotten my hands on a couple small block 727 trannys. One has a "snout" before the splines on the input shaft. The other has splines all the way forward to the edge. What is the difference? Witch one is better for a street car or a street/strip car? How can I tell what year they are?

if it has a snout before the spline..probably a lock up transmission....converters are not interchangeable between a lockup and non lockup due to different number of splines..

on the driver side..just above the pan...there is a part number stamp...should start with a PK and then numbers...post those numbers

Tell ya. Pretty much the "one source" 727 bible is the book by Munroe
