Ok, so I am back and trying to get started on this car...again..

Been dealing with quite a bit the last 2 years and never did get the car started as I had hoped. The good news is that I have spent the last 2 years collecting enough parts to easily build the car and probably enough to build another but that is another story.

Here is my situation and questions. I am building the car with a floor shift console. I have recently bought a new 727 transmission with the long tailshaft on it. I do have a spare 727 with the short tailshaft so that leads me to my first question, on the 1966 Barracuda shouldn't I be using the shorter tailshaft to eliminate the need for any modifications to the driveshaft?

Also when your installing a transmission for a console shifter, is there supposed to be some sort of bracket on the tailshaft or transmision itself that holds a rod (thought I was told a torque rod) in place? If so is that something I can order and bolt on or does it need to be fabricated?

Thanks again!

The large hole in the transmission (drivers side just above the oil pan) is for the bracket that has a bushing for the shifter rod. There is also another bracket on the frame. Try Stephens Performance www.shopmopar.com

the 727 in the early "A" body will be difficult, and hardly fit...a hammer may be needed...some. I would suggest a 904, that is what the car came with from the factory, in fact 727's were not installed into the early "A" bodies. For street/strip use the 904 will hold up just fine. Back to your original question, you will have to find the support bracket, or a pix of one then make it. It is not "real" fancy!

Thanks for all the info. I have heard that it shouldn't be a problem using the 727 in the car, I'm hoping that it is fairly smooth. Well see. I'll look for that bracket thanks alot for the ebay link. At least gives me an idea of what to look for..
