Just bought a 72 DEMON 340, now with a 40 over 400 and 727, has a shift kit (?) and hits second hard but it will not go into third even at 60 mph . Tried manual shifting and regular in drive still no go, it did go in once when I jumped on it at a roll and it seemed to hit all gears. Any ideas ? Thanks

You need to first adjust the kickdown rod to see if that's all it is. Start by shortening it a 1/4" at a time or so. Under normal acceleration from a stop, at what mph does it shift from 1-2? Should be about 15-20 mph.

Thanks, took it to a show tonite and as far as we can tell the kickdown is NOT hooked to anytrhing, it is a 340 car with a 400 big block in it noe, looks like the kickdown will have to be fabed. Anyone have a drawing of this or has done it ?

DO NOT DRIVE WITHOUT KICKDOWN!!!If you do,say bye to your tranny! Not at all.Even though you already have.Keep your fingers crossed X.Could be the govenor?Search tranny Forum?

I agree that you shouldn't drive it without the kickdown hooked up or you may burn up the trans. They may have the kickdown lever wired solid on the trans. since it's not hooked up and that's why it isn't shifting right. Since you don't have any linkage your best bet is to buy a Lokar kit and install it. Much better looking and functioning than the stock stuff.

Just thought I'd add it'll take you longer to fab anything that'll work as (it's pretty picky on getting it right) than install a Lokar kit and the Lokar kit will probably cost less than stock used stuff.

Thanks alot, will not be driving the Demon until I have the kickdown on the trans
