My 8 3/4 has 2.73 gear set no locker and small bolt pattern axles, it is a 489 housing, but other than that no redeeming features. I measured from wheel mounting flange to mounting flange and got almost exactly 54". So I am on the search for other rear ends that will work in its stead, was considering a modern set up with independent suspension but most that are hefty enough to take a 5.7 Hemi are much larger than 54". Does anyone know the dimensions for perhaps B-body axles? or any other ideas from anyone that has done some rear end swaps in their a-body. I always get a bit lost when figuring this out because of how the a-body rear end was a bit to narrow for the car to begin with, and with the right size rearend I can achieve the 8" wide tire and the right "look" where the tires fill the wheel wells without the rubs\\:D/

Well, unless your exceeding 600 HP, why swap?

54" isn't close to stock width. Should be in the 57" area for a stock SBP 8.75 rear.

If the rear you have is 54", then you have a nice rear that will accept deeper dish wheels than the stock A rear.

The rearend came with the car when I bought it, it wasn't in the car. I was told it was a drag car before (which I believe as it has stickers all over it and the k-frame mounts are cracked)

I believe you have a B-body rear. Which would actually be better for you as crackedback said. Measure the spring perch mounting hole to spring perch mounting hole. If you come up with 44" you have a B-body rear. Which sounds like what you are looking for.
