I removed my steering column and noticed something that seems wrong.
There is no bearing in the column where it appears there should be.
Am I wrong or do I need a bearing?

Floor shift column?

My '71 just uses a foam seal (not sure about a '73 but yours looks like mine) inserted in the tube in which the steering shaft passes through. Some folks here have used a modified bearing here and I assume that they will chime in. Several threads on it.

Bilderguy I think is his handle. Pretty sure he is in Jackson, Mississippi has a build thread on a Dart Sport he just posted a few weeks ago doing just this in his build thread.

The upper column bearing is so pizzy that it would toss its balls in the floor before preventing a ladies steering efforts. Lower bearing that factory used in other columns was Toys'R'us grade also.
Some geniuses use a industrial grade ball bearing there that could one day seriously lock the steering shaft.
"Who cares what DOT thinks of it. My car, my shade tree."
Stronger than a bad ball bearing?
Dieing to find out I suppose.
