74 duster rear bumper

k so i heard you can drill a hole in the " shock" on the rear bumper bracket. and move it in closer to the car. .. .i have drilled the hole and drained all the fluid. so My question now is. . .how do i move it in???? i have the whole assembly off the car and am wondering how to move it closer thanks

Bolt it back on the car then push it in where you want it and weld it up.

seems like its not moving. maybe gotta lube it up.. . .then try to move it. .

Did you consider putting a bumper from a 70-73 car on? These not only sit closer to the body but they ae also narrower so they don't stick outside the body as much. I haven't tried one on my 74 duster yet, but I do have a 72 demon parts car I am eyeing up. Plus there is a weight savings as well.
