I am trying to get some 4 1/2" BP wheels on thr rear of my '62 Dart 270. So I have found a 8 1/4 out of a '73 V8 duster. spring perches match. Cost for one in west GA is a little steep at $250 but that is not the question.

Both cars are automatics. the '64 has a 3" longer wheelbase. So I am thinking the '73 drive shaft is too short. What drive shaft do I use?

Dumb question #2 when switching to a modern front U-joint, what do I have to do to the tranny if anything to use the splined slip joint on the tranny output shaft?

Thanks, for the help.

Is your car a '62 or '64 Dart? I see both years listed here. If it's a '64 and you pulled out a 7 1/4 rear, just use the old driveshaft and have it shortened. If you want to get rid of the ball and trunion joint, check with your local driveshaft shop. They may have a conversion kit they can install for you. Not cheap though!

I guess my '64 904 tranny output shaft does not have splines that are compatible with a newer slip yoke U-joint. If that is the case then rebuilding the trunion u-joint and shortening the driveshaft is the way to go.
