I have a few questions, so Ill get to the point -

Are the axles stronger in the 8.25 than the 7"?

Did they make an 8.25 Sure Grip?

What would a good wroking order 8.25 SG Pumpkin and Housing (inc axle tubes) be worth?

Like wise

What would a good working order 8.75 SG and housing/tubes be worth?

Thanks in advance for the advice

The axle itself...I'm not sure. But the center section......
I was told by my old mech. whom wrenched for Chrysler for many years until he opened his MoPar only shop;
"If you get an 8-1/4, the pumpkin inside is no stronger than the 7-1/4, get the sure grip, it's worth the expense."

Did they make an 8.25 Sure Grip?
Yep. Inexpensive. They should be under $300 green backs for the unit.

I picked my sure grip equiped rear up for $200. It had no backing plates, which was fine by me since I had and installed 11 inch drums on it. I have seen similar prices for complete drum to drum 8-1/4 rears for sale. Cheapest 8-1/4's are from later B bodies. Cordobas for example.

I've seen them go for triple the amount. I haven't seen one go for under $500 in awhile. (Which I think is a shame and toooo much.) The center sections can be had brand new for more or less than $1,000, complete.

And I just remembered a member as close to you as possible here in the states that is, is here selling; http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=27273

Thanks for the heads up RF (BTW, very cool "handle"...one of my all time favourite movies)

That last link doesnt say if its a SG...which is a must for me.....

Would that change the sort of $$ they go for?

my brothers 79 aspen r/t came with a 8.25 sure grip 3.23 geared rear. 8 3/4's are probably best found in salvage yards.
